Show Me A Story: Book Review and GIVEAWAY-CLOSED

Today, I'm honored to be a part of the blog tour for Emily Neuburger's new book, Show Me a Story.
Not only is this book amazing and Miss Emily super talented, but she's one of the most genuine and kind people you'll ever meet.  I am fortunate to be able to call her a friend.
This book inspires the storyteller in us all.  The projects are simple in design, but the possibilities boundless.  The 4 year old story teller in my house, couldn't keep his hands off of it.
Since the weather has been so nice, we decided to go out for a Storytelling walk.  The idea is to "mentally" collect items to later create a story with.  For my little boy, physically collecting items to tell stories with is part of the fun as well.
We took along a bag, and some friends, and collected.
There were stories of troll homes along the way,
and at home, we drew and retold stories from the day.
This book truly inspired me to look at the world around me and even if for but a few moments, get lost in an imaginary world.  I have fond memories of creating these worlds as a child and look forward to sharing that experience with my own kids.  This will be the guidebook to help lead us there.

To enter to win your own copy of this fabulous book:
  • Leave a comment (with your email address) here telling me what inspires the storyteller in you (US residents only, sorry!)

Happy Weekend.

  9. My storytelling is generally rooted in reality and brought to the surface when my son asks me with genuine curiosity, "Tell me about when (fill in the blank with a question about when I was growing up)." I don't embellish much, but I do love to use interesting words. I definitely need prompts to unleash creative storytelling, and this book looks loaded with exciting and fun possibilities. kgosborne@roadrunner.com

  10. I'm not a great storyteller, but my daughter constantly asks me to "tell me a story about when you were a little girl." She's even started giving me prompts, like "did you ever need your parents' help when you were outside?" I don't know where they come from, but they sure help me think of stories to tell her! Would love a chance to win the book--thanks! mcghol at yahoo dot com.

  12. In a past issue of Bead and Button magazine, there was an idea for story telling with a strand of varied beads. Two years ago, I gave my boys a different bead for every day of Advent, and then we strung them for storytelling. I'd love a copy of this book to see more fun ways of telling stories!

  13. The storyteller in me comes out when I see something naturally amazing or unusual. (A seagull decided to hangout on my car the other day while I was shopping and then stayed there as I got in, started my car and backed out of the parking space!) I have told the story of "my" seagull to almost everyone at work.

BTW, should I be honored to be chosen as the winner, I want to give this book to my neice and her three beautiful children!

  14. Memories and dreams from my childhood inspire me when I tell stories to my daughters. My 6 year old keeps a journal and is always writing her own stories - this book would be so wonderful to have for her! Thanks for the giveaway. My email is becky.norton125 at gmail.com

  15. Children!! That is what inspires me. Being nearly 50.. (almost half a century >.<) I love watching children when they discover something new. From the 3 year olds who giggle at 'understanding' a joke on "Spongebob" to the 21 years olds that have never been to the zoo before. I love seeing their reactions and putting myself in their place. Then afterwards, asking them about their first experiences, and watching their faces reanimate with emotion as they tell their story. I would love to win the book! It is always fun to learn how to do something a new a different way - it keeps us young! Thank you for another great blog post. Bunnie@triad.rr.com

  16. What inspires me? my students. I have a writer's workshop in my classroom. It is amazing the ideas that first and second graders come up with. They are so creative and write out of a true inspiration to share with others through writing. I am so excited for this book. It is a very generous giveaway. Thank you!

  17. My girls inspire story-telling because they both create stories for me to tell and elicit stories from my childhood. Whenever they request a story from my past I remember how much I loved it when my mom told me stories about her younger days and about my grandmother and great aunts. Children create memories by requesting that we reveal ours.

  18. My daughter inspires me. Just today she told me 'tell me a story about a zebra'. And off I went. She tosses ideas in and I incorporate them as well as I can and we have a great time.

  19. Hearing my children ask "tell me a story, Mama" always makes me dig deep for a good tale. I remember many wonderful stories by my talented Daddy. Lucky me to have such good memories..I try hard to pass along the gift of a good story. I would love a little new inspiration.

  20. Anything that happens during my day is a story. When my son gets off the school bus every afternoon, he asks me, "Anything new?" That means he wants me to tell a story about my day. It's often not anything out of the ordinary, but he likes to hear about little things such as who I saw at the supermarket or what someone told me on the phone. The stories of my day allow us to reconnect after a day apart; I look forward to him telling me his own stories.

  21. Our dog and our daughter inspire my husband and me to make up little stories. More often than not, they end up being silly little songs. :)
