We're headed to Florida soon and my thoughts are on warmer weather. Perfect excuse to whip up another Washi Dress. I like my first Washi Dress, it definitely needed some fit adjustments.
This time around, I made some adjustments to the bust. I moved the darts up a bit, shortened the bust, brought the shoulders in and widened the neck. I also cut just about 2 inches out of the middle. I also did a partial lining instead of the facings. Rae has a series of videos to walk you through it. I think it's actually easier than the facings. I had my computer next to my machine and it felt like Rae and I were sewing together. How fun!
The result of my haphazard adjustments is a shockingly perfect fit! This is my first attempt at fitting and makes me think that I might actually invest in a dress form. I've got my eye on this one.

I really like adding a tie to the Washi. This time I made it wider and added some belt loops to the side.
I'm sooo happy with this dress. I picked this fabric up on clearance for $2/yard and really didn't think it was that great. I figured for the price it would make a good muslin.
I think my next venture is going to be figuring out how to add an invisible zipper to the back.
That fabric is gorgeous on you!
ReplyDeleteNicely done! It does look to fit you so perfectly, though the first one looked good as well.
ReplyDeleteLooks great!
ReplyDeleteyou made some awesome improvements! Love the before and after, as i read through the changes I'd do an oooooh, yes yeah that IS different... lots of head nodding. :) thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love your Washi! The fabric is gorgeous. I just finished my first Washi and am already thinking of what adjustments I should make to my next one, so I appreciate you sharing your fitting decisions!
ReplyDeleteLove the fabric of your dress. For my 'winter'version of the dress (living in Belgium) I also shortened te bust part, and adjusted te back so I didn't had to use shirring and I have put an invisible zipper on te side.
ReplyDeleteLoved your Design!!
ReplyDeleteI have never commented on your blog before but I have to say, the dress in the bright fabric looks STUNNING on you!
ReplyDeleteI love the fabric you used, and what a bargain! :) I just made my first washi on the weekend, I found the dart placement was OK for me, but I think next time I too will reduce the length of the bodice. Did you then also move the shirring up? (My bottom row of shirring lines up perfectly with the bottom of the bodice). I also widened and deepened the neckline and am happy with that :) Have you heard of Swedish Tracing Paper? I just mention it as I used it for the first time making this dress and it was handing to use it as pattern pieces and a muslim. It is very helpful for getting the fit right :) If you are interested you can see my Washi at the bottom of this post :) http://prettybobbins.blogspot.com/2013/01/sunday-stash-and-washi-dress-for-me.html
