The snaps are great for easy access. The comment about Velcro is a good idea for easy access, but it tends to stick to many medical supplies like gauze and mesh bandages, and can make quite a mess! Another good NICU idea is crib blankets or quilts. My daughter has received a few from Project Linus which donates handmade blankets to our local children's hospital. Often clothing gets in the way of all of the wires and tubes, so the vests are perfect. Your friend will really appreciate these. She can probably donate them when her baby has outgrown them. Food for the family is a great idea too. Nothing better than a full freezer when you come home (or healthy snacks to throw in your hospital visiting bag). Your friend will appreciate this so much! It's a snuggly thing that mom or dad sleeps with and then it's placed near them in their bed. It's not something you can do at home but during 24 hour monitoring, it's okay. I don't know if you have the energy, but that's something else to do. Many of our friends brought us lunch or dinner, which wad much appreciated. Hospital food is the worst.
